Almost Ready

I've been working at school A LOT since my classroom update but I am very happy to report that Room 27 is almost ready for supply night! Today I finished hanging the rest of the bulletin boards and the personal artwork signs I made for each of my students. Each student has their own personal space along the outside wall and then we have group tables in the middle for work times and group activities. This extra space will allow us opportunities to work both independently and in small or large groups and I am very excited to utilize our classroom to its fullest potential.

I got to school at 5:45 am this morning and after putting everything in the hall to work on our doorway bulletin board my door swung shut and because I have an automatic locking door and my keys and phone were on my desk, I was locked in the hall without a way to reach anyone. I borrowed our librarian's computer and logged on to Facebook so I could send out a message to a few of my teaching friends. One sweet teacher came right to my rescue and I was able to finish working inside my room for the rest of the morning. :)

Our space is really starting to look like a classroom! I still need to get some things up on the bulletin boards and hang the rest of our Number Corner items but overall things are really starting to come together. I'm getting so excited to see everyone at supply night on Thursday and I can't wait to start our year together. We are going to have such an amazing time!

Student Signs

I have been wanting to make these signs for my students from the time I found out I would be moving into Room 27. I wanted a place for each child to hang his or her artwork within our classroom. They ended up being a bit more work than I had anticipated but I'm SO happy with the way they turned out. I painted each board with chalkboard paint and used chalk pen to write the names. My girls helped me paint the stars and we had fun putting them all together today. I can't wait to get them all hanging up at school.

Getting Closer

I was lucky enough to have some time to work in my classroom this week and things are starting to come together a bit. I still need to get some book shelves and organize my supplies but it felt good to get some things put away.

I had the maintenance department leave the counters along the walls. This is where each student will have his or her own work space. They will have a spot to store their pencil box, books and folders and a tote to organize their iPad, headphones, keyboards, etc. The tables in the center of the room will then be used for pull out groups, mini-lessons or whole group activities where we want to sit together. I am anticipating some time where one grade level will be working independently at their work stations along the wall while I am teaching the other grade level at the center tables. I think overall this set up will work very well for the class I have this year.

I was also excited that maintenance hung my coat hooks and a few more shelves to help complete my space along that wall. Now I'm just waiting for the tech department to hang my monitor so I can start putting up my bulletin boards and calendar space.

I still have A LOT of work to do but it felt good to start putting my space together and I'm happy with the progress today.
